Project "Europe for all"
Project "Europe for all" helped students of SOŠ and SOU (Secondary vocational school) in Horky nad Jizerou and its partner school SOŠ and SOU Praha Čakovice gain new skills and experience during their internship abroad. There were thirty students to take part in the internship in four European countries. Their professions were a pastry chef, a cook-waiter, a farmer and a travel agent.
The internship in Austria was held for eight students under the coordination of Municipal Office in Furth bei Gottweig from September 21 to October, 2008. They were at four entrepreneurs who focus on agro-tourism, wine growing, restaurant service and a pension.
Winter internship was attended by ten students and took place in High Tatras, SR in the FIS Hotel Štrbské Pleso from December 21 to January 20, 2009.
The internship in Germany was for eight students and was held from May 13 to June 16, 2009 – the first week in Brrufsachule Wiseau, the second and third week in hotels and restaurants in Weiden.
The internship in Italy for six students was from September 5 to September 25, 2009. There were six restaurants and hotels – contracting workplace of the partner school IPPSSARCT Panziny in Senigallia.
The management and implementation team ensured the preparation, evaluation and dissemination of the internship projects according to the action plan and timetable.
Selection of students was carried out according to established criteria. The main condition was an active interest in the internship. Participation of students with learning and behavioural disorders, students from socially weak families without previous experience in travelling abroad was supported.
All students were included into teams doing business in the fields of their study. The employees of these firms generally showed a great willingness to cooperate. They passed their experience to their trainees and helped them overcome difficulties.
The internship participants were accommodated and had meals either with their employer’s families, or they stayed in a hostel, hotel or pension.
Important aspect of fulfilled goals was the positive change in students´ behaviour, their attitude to education, developing their confidence and adaptability.
The internship also helped students not only to be more independent but also be ready for teamwork. Giving an opportunity even to weaker and problem students to take part in this Internship has shown as a positive motivation for better results in the study.
The students gained high quality vocational skills, experience and better communication skills in a foreign language. They improved their practical skills in relevant speciality- national gastronomy, regional tourism and using agricultural production in agro tourism.
Meaningful influence on leisure was useful for the prevention of negative phenomena among students.
Evaluation was focused on use for changing work forms and methods. Our school has started to apply them in connection with the introduction of new educational programs since September 1, 2009.
The project experience is going to be distributed within the common project OPVK- Journey to modern education for all involved vocational schools.
Within the dissemination we are continuing to offer experience gained by arranging of long-term internships abroad to other schools and organizations.
The project proved success of the school philosophy- that the internship abroad is an important part of training and education of students.
